Dear Fellow Students,
The Student Association has taken notice of the university's plan to officially implement the gate access control system starting September 3rd. According to regulations, freshmen must complete a traffic safety orientation and obtain a motorcycle permit before they can pass through the gate control system to enter and exit campus.
However, there are clear contradictions in the practical implementation:
This timeline essentially requires freshmen to complete an "impossible mission" within the system. In practice, this means freshmen who ride motorcycles will be unable to legally enter and exit campus in the short term. Such measures are unreasonable and disregard the basic needs of freshmen's daily lives.
The Student Association hereby solemnly states:
Regarding the university's position:
We understand the university hopes to use gate control to give students more time to familiarize themselves with campus and reduce traffic accident risks. However, the Student Association believes that safety should be rooted in education and self-discipline. The university should not use safety as a justification to restrict freshmen's most basic freedom of movement. We believe students will safeguard their own safety through self-discipline, rather than relying on restrictive measures to replace trust and education.
The Student Association began communicating with the university on August 28th to ensure that the rights of freshmen and all students are not compromised by unreasonable institutional arrangements. Active coordination is currently ongoing.
Sincerely,
National Dong Hwa University Student Association
